Why I Started Eating Cream of Rice
For the past 6 years, I’ve been a huge fan eating eggs plus a carb for breakfast. My carbs would usually be fruit, oatmeal or toast. And, I still love that for breakfast.
But, over the summer, while traveling with my friend to compete in another body building show (she’s an IFBB pro), and seeing her eat cream of rice, it dawned on me that most body builders eat cream of rice. It’s a quick acting carb, that’s gentle on your digestion.
So, I decided, If I was going to call myself a body builder, I needed to get on the cream of rice train!
However, I started with an overpriced flavored cream of rice. It was 4X the cost of regular cream of rice, just for them to add flavorings like maple & brown sugar.
Although the expensive cream of rice was great, I decided to buy plain cream of rice and flavor it myself from here out.
So, that’s what I did! While I have a million low & no calorie ways to flavor foods (see my list here!!), I decided to go with Feast Mode seasonings because they have:
Any and all three are so good on cream of rice (and my discount code for Feast Mode is HEALTHBEET!)
Benefits of Cream of Rice for Pre-Workout Fuel
Not only have I loved this breakfast, it’s given me the best, fact acting carbs to fuel my workouts! But, I also love it because of these benefits:
- Fast digesting carbs for Quick, sustained energy for training.
- Gentle on the stomach means, No bloating or discomfort before workouts.
- Low in fat and fiber. I love this to help prevent sluggish digestion.
- Easy to flavor: With the plainness of the cream of rice, it can take on any flavor you’re craving. You can make it taste like apple pie, cinnamon roll, or even pumpkin pie.
- Budget-friendly when you aren’t buying the pre-flavored “fitness” cream of rice blends online.
The Essential List of Ingredients
- Chopped apple, cooked! Pre-cooking the apple helps the digestibility of it. But also, warm , soft apples are so tasty!
- Cream of rice – The classic, orange box kind, with the brand name “Cream of Rice” is the only one I’ve found at regular stores like Walmart and Amazon. I have found the Elev8 brand Cream of Rice at my local health food store, which is SUPER tasty, but also, very, very expensive!
- Flavor with Feast Mode seasoning (Caramel Apple, Maple Cookie, or Cinnamon Honey Butter). If you haven’t purchased ALL of the Feast Mode seasonings yet, you’re truly missing out! I have almost all of them and go through them like crazy on my veggies, chicken, (for the savory ones), and oatmeal and now cream of Rice for the sweet ones.
