- Starbucks Rewards members can get a free tall hot or iced coffee on Feb. 9.
- The free coffee must be added to a qualifying order through the Starbucks app.
- Starbucks is also rolling out new Rewards tiers and perks starting March 10.
Coffee is a popular way to start the morning for good reason. A cup of joe is rich in antioxidants, may lower inflammation in the body and can support everything from cardiovascular health to regular bowel movements. And while grabbing your morning coffee from chains like Starbucks can be a pricey habit, it doesn’t always have to be.
Case in point? This Monday (Feb. 9), Starbucks is giving away free cups of coffee—a perfect pick-me-up after a weekend of festivities related to Super Bowl LX. Grabbing your free, 12-ounce hot or iced coffee at Starbucks is easy, but there are a few things to know in advance before you pull up to the Starbucks drive-through next week.
To snag a free Starbucks coffee on Feb. 9, you must be a member of Starbucks Rewards, the chain’s loyalty program. If you’re not already earning stars with the Starbucks app, worry not: It’s pretty easy to use. Just be sure to sign up for the free Starbucks Rewards program and download the app before your Monday-morning coffee run.
On Monday morning, simply place an order for any qualifying beverage (the offer excludes alcohol and ready-to-drink beverages) of equal or greater value, then add a tall hot or iced coffee to your order. That 12-ounce coffee should show up as a freebie when you check out through the Starbucks app. And yes, you’ll be able to add things like oat milk or sugar-free sweetener to your free coffee through the app as well.
There’s one additional perk at participating Starbucks locations next week: All tall, grande and venti hot beverages will be served in a special-edition paper cup, wrapped in Starbucks’ iconic green color and displaying the original Starbucks logo. These cups will appear on hot beverage orders throughout the month of February, while supplies last.
The popular coffee chain’s Monday morning freebie promotion comes on the heels of Starbucks announcing upcoming updates to the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program. Starting on March 10, the program will have three tiers of membership levels: Green, Gold and Reserve. Each level will offer new, exclusive benefits for members, with the opportunity for customers to level up as they engage with the program and earn stars for their coffee purchases.
As part of this updated program, all members will have access to benefits like one free drink customization per month, double stars when using a personal cup and the ability to collect extra bonus stars with Starbucks card reloads of $30 or more. Green members start at the bottom tier with perks like a free birthday treat and the ability to earn one star per dollar spent, while Gold and Reserve members will notice added perks like greater star-earning power, birthday rewards with a longer redemption period and more of those coveted double star earning days.

Whatever your normal Starbucks order includes, adding a free coffee to the mix is a great way to give a friend or coworker a little pick-me-up, especially if their team wasn’t the victor in Sunday night’s Super Bowl.
