This high protein, low calorie vegetable dip is made with Cottage cheese, light mayo and ranch seasoning. I like to bring it to parties so I know there’s something I’ll eat that will keep me on track as well!
Why I Use Cottage Cheese Instead of Sour Cream for Dip
Classic veggie dip is often made by mixing sour cream with ranch seasoning, or a ranch seasoning packet. However, since I have big protein goals, cottage cheese, blended till it’s mostly smooth, is a terrific alternative.
Gram for gram, Sour cream contains almost triple the calories of cottage cheese. And, for the same amount of sour cream, you can have 5 g of protein, or 15 grams of protein in the cottage cheese. And honestly, once blended with ranch seasoning, they both taste pretty similar.

Wanting a snack that actually fills you up
One huge misconception I had about food noise and satiety with meals, is I dismissed it because I rarely eat because I’m hungry. When I’m grazing all day, I rarely feel hungry.
What I actually learned about food noise however is when it is lower, your “food seeking” behavior decreases at a physiological level. No longer are my first thoughts. “I’m going to need a snack right now!”
Which is where a high protein diet is helpful. A theory called, “The protein leverage hypothesis” states that you are likely to seek more food and calories until a minimum threshold of protein is met. So, if your protein is sufficient, it’s possible those cravings, food seeking behavior and food noise will quiet down!
Other ways to quiet food noise naturally, here!
And this is where cottage cheese enters!! For regular low fat cottage cheese, the nutrition info is
- High in protein ( 13 grams/ 1/2 cup)
- 100 calories per 1/2 cup
- and 5 g carbs per 11/2 cup
Combine that with some high fiber veggies for dipping, and it’s a powerful snack to slow down cravings and food noise.
What Is Whipped Cottage Cheese Veggie Dip?
Simply put, whipped cottage cheese is blending lumpy cottage cheese into something smoother. Many people don’t like cottage cheese because of the texture, but blending it to smooth eliminates that problem.
One of the posts pinned the most from my blog is this orange creamsicle whipped cottage cheese. And for good reason! It’s smooth and SO delicious. You would never know it was cottage cheese. I just knew I need more savory dips like this ranch one.
Best Veggies for This Cottage Cheese Veggie Dip
Any veggie will do. I like having a charcuterie style tray to keep in my fridge, or if I’m bringing this to a party. This is the one I am using in the photo.

- Snap peas
- Cherry tomatoes

How I Use This Dip When I’m Tracking Calories
I’ve been a member of the “clean plate club” for over 50 years now, so the only way I’m capable of counting the calories and macros for this cottage cheese dip, is to just log that I ate it all! Haha. One FULL recipe is 200 calories, so I just log it and lick the bowl clean!
